Company Overview
M&M Glass has been southern Louisiana's trusted custom glass and mirror provider for over 40 years. We're known for our high-quality work, customer-first service, and solid relationships with families, designers, contractors, and builders across the region. None of it would be possible without our hands-on team who shows up ready to work every day.
Life as a Commercial Estimator
Our Commercial Estimator will play a key role in identifying, estimating, coordinating, and tracking commercial glass projects from the initial bid opportunity through final installation.
This isn’t a bid-it-and-forget-it position. You’ll stay connected to projects throughout the process, working with general contractors, vendors, our internal teams, and leadership to help keep projects accurate, organized, profitable, and moving forward.
Commercial glass estimating experience would be a major plus, but it is not required. We are looking for someone who already understands the fundamentals of construction, estimating, architectural plans, specifications, takeoffs, and project coordination. We can teach you the glass-specific side of our products and processes. You should come prepared with enough construction knowledge and experience to understand how the pieces of a project fit together.
You’ll estimate commercial projects including storefronts, interior glass and office partitions, gym and fitness mirror installations, and architectural glass railings. You’ll also support residential plan estimating and other architectural glass projects as needed.
This role is ideal for a self-starter who is comfortable taking ownership, asking the right questions, identifying potential gaps, and helping develop better processes. We want someone who can bring valuable construction knowledge to the table while continuing to learn alongside us.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
As our Commercial Estimator, you'll balance estimating, project coordination, relationship management, and preconstruction responsibilities. Some days may be heavily focused on plans and takeoffs, while others may include jobsite meetings, project coordination, vendor communication, residential plan bids, or identifying upcoming commercial opportunities.
Estimating & Takeoffs:
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, addenda, and other bid documents to determine project scope.
- Perform detailed quantity and material takeoffs for commercial glass and glazing projects.
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for storefronts, interior glass systems, office partitions, mirror installations, architectural railings, and related products.
- Evaluate project scope, material requirements, labor considerations, site conditions, and potential risks to help determine the true cost of pursuing and completing a project.
- Identify scope requirements, exclusions, alternates, potential conflicts, and other details that may impact pricing or execution.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and recommend practical alternatives when appropriate.
- Resolve scope and cost discrepancies by researching plans, specifications, vendor information, and project requirements.
- Obtain and evaluate vendor pricing for materials, hardware, fabrication, and other project needs.
- Prepare clear, professional proposals that accurately communicate scope, inclusions, exclusions, alternates, and pricing.
- Track bid deadlines, revisions, addenda, submitted proposals, and follow-up activity.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, project documents, pricing information, and bid history.
- Prepare estimates and pricing for review and approval by company leadership.
Project Coordination:
- Track awarded projects from bid through completion, working alongside the appropriate internal teams to coordinate materials, fabrication, scheduling, installation, and project requirements.
- Maintain a clear understanding of project scope, timelines, material requirements, and installation needs throughout the life of the project.
- Communicate with general contractors, project managers, vendors, and internal teams to keep project information current and accurate.
- Attend job walks, preconstruction meetings, site visits, and project coordination meetings as needed.
- Review field conditions and project information to help identify potential issues before they affect fabrication or installation.
- Assist with submittals, RFIs, change orders, product information, and other project documentation as needed.
- Monitor project progress and communicate scheduling, material, scope, cost, or site concerns to the appropriate team members.
- Work with the General Manager, Owner, and other team members on pricing, project decisions, and unusual project conditions.
Commercial Growth & Relationships:
- Actively identify, monitor, and track upcoming commercial bid opportunities.
- Prospect for new commercial projects and contractor relationships when opportunities allow.
- Follow up on submitted bids and maintain communication throughout the bidding process.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with general contractors, project managers, vendors, manufacturers, and other industry partners.
- Understand M&M Glass capabilities, products, and competitive advantages and effectively communicate that value throughout the bidding process.
- Help identify opportunities to expand M&M Glass's commercial contractor network and commercial presence.
- Represent M&M Glass professionally during contractor meetings, jobsite visits, industry events, and other business interactions.
Residential & Architectural Estimating:
- Review complete residential construction plans to identify applicable glass and mirror products throughout the project.
- Prepare residential plan estimates for showers, mirrors, cabinet glass, railings, and other custom glass applications.
- Estimate architectural glass railing projects and coordinate necessary product, hardware, fabrication, and installation information.
- Communicate with residential builders, contractors, vendors, and internal team members regarding plan details and project requirements.
- Support additional estimating needs across the company based on workload and project demand.
Industry Knowledge & Development:
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of commercial glass, aluminum systems, hardware, railing systems, fabrication requirements, and installation processes.
- Maintain current knowledge of material options, manufacturer requirements, product limitations, and industry best practices.
- Understand applicable jobsite safety requirements and recognize potential project and installation risks.
- Participate in manufacturer, vendor, safety, estimating, and industry training opportunities.
- Continue developing knowledge of construction practices, codes, specifications, estimating methods, and commercial glazing systems.
- Help document and improve estimating and commercial project processes.
Think you’d be a fit?
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in construction estimating, preconstruction, project coordination, or another directly transferable construction role.
- Comfortable independently reading and interpreting architectural plans, specifications, details, and construction documents.
- Experienced with quantity and material takeoffs and building estimates from construction documents.
- Able to look beyond quantities and understand how scope, labor, materials, scheduling, site conditions, and risk affect the overall cost of a project.
- Able to recognize missing information, discrepancies, conflicts, and potential problems before they become costly issues.
- Comfortable working with numbers, measurements, quantities, material costs, and pricing.
- Organized enough to manage multiple bids, deadlines, active projects, and follow-ups at the same time.
- A self-starter who can identify what needs attention without waiting for every next step to be assigned. A critical thinker and problem solver who knows when to research, ask questions, or bring an issue to leadership.
- Confident communicating professionally with general contractors, project managers, vendors, customers, and internal teams.
